June 1942 Headline: 650-Mile Shopping Trip
In the middle of February 3 sleds pulled into Wiseman from Smith Bay on the Arctic Coast. Five Eskimos with 21 dogs had made the 650 mile trip in order to buy a season’s supply of ammunition and one deck of playing cards.
