Re: POA-2014-0060 GEORGE INLET

I write this letter to express the Greater Ketchikan Chamber of Commerce’s continued support for the Shelter Cove Road project (POA-2014-0060 GEORGE INLET) and any and all progress made toward the project’s completion.

Our Chamber works hard to promote regional growth, a climate that is good for business, a lifestyle that attracts year-round residents, economic diversity and a stable, productive workforce. Local access to public lands and the recreational, subsistence, and development opportunities afforded by these lands supports each aspect of our mission unequivocally. For this reason, we believe the completion of the Shelter Cove Road is vital and will play a major positive role in the lives and livelihoods of those living in and around Ketchikan.

A completed Shelter Cove Road will open up parts of Revillagigedo Island to hunting, fishing, recreating, tourism, sightseeing, land sales, and potential development that heretofore have been inaccessible and underutilized. Access and ease of transportation are keys to progress, and a completed Shelter Cove Road could provide Ketchikan with an opportunity to step forward that should not be overlooked. The possibilities for growth here in southern Southeast Alaska are numerous, but they will remain only ideas without adequate, basic transportation infrastructure.

Please note the support of our Chamber and of Ketchikan’s business community for completion of the Shelter Cove Road project and the potential it possesses to improve both quality of life and economic opportunity.

Thank you for your consideration.

Sincerely,

Chelsea J. Goucher, Executive Director
