FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Ketchikan, AK — June 5, 2023

The Greater Ketchikan Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors has voted to form a Downtown Ketchikan Alliance.  With the extraordinary changes and growth within the downtown corridor in key areas such as business, visitor, and social issues, the Board of Directors realized that bringing the community together would be a proactive approach to bettering and continuing to grow Ketchikan’s downtown areas.

According to Ketchikan Chamber President, Trevor Shaw, “The Downtown Corridor is not only the lifeblood of our local visitors’ industry but a home to many year-round businesses and residents. With continued exponential growth expected in the area, The Ketchikan Chamber’s goal is to offer a proactive approach to ensure continued vitality, vibrance, and safety in the area. The Chamber hopes to facilitate such an approach through the Downtown Ketchikan Alliance.”

The proposed mission of the group is as follows:

Entrusted to examine, work, learn, discuss, and recommend strategies to advance Ketchikan’s downtown across these four key areas:
The promotion of a vibrant downtown as a destination that is year-round, for events, culture, and for doing business
A collective and evolving vision for our future as an area that offers walkability and a high quality experience for both residents and visitors.
Promoting a welcoming and safe environment for locals and visitors alike.
Encouraging planning and investment in our future in a way that is conducive for business, residents, and visitors.

The committee will meet once a month for one hour at a downtown location or over Zoom, as long as there are issues to discuss. The Board envisions the Downtown Ketchikan Alliance to be a collaboration between businesses, non-profits, government entities, and residents. Those who would like to join the committee should send a letter of interest to EXECDIR@KETCHIKANCHAMBER.COM with “DKA Volunteer Opportunity” in the subject line.

The first meeting of the group is expected to be scheduled for early July of 2023. For more information, please call (907) 225-3184 or visit www.ketchikanchamber.com. ###
